Dez Bryant and the Cowboys loaded offense

Dez Bryant fell right into the hands of the Dallas Cowboys in this weekends NFL draft. He was projected to be a top ten pick but was suspended during the 2010 season because of contact with an outside source. He is a very good player and I think that some teams might of slipped on not drafting them, and even worse letting the Cowboys pick him up at number 24.

They now have a very powerful offense with Tony Romo at quarterback, Miles Austin, and now Dez Bryant. This is going to be a very good team comming into the 2010-2011 season, they are going to be loaded on offense and they did a good job at remaking their defense in the draft as well. They might be the first team to play in thier home stadium in the Super Bowl becasue the new Cowboys stadium will play host to the 2011 Super Bowl, that is a very scary thought for teams around the NFL.

Aroldis Chapman

Aroldis Chapman finally had a wild but good third outing the other day for the Louisville Bats as they won 7-1, which is a good sign for the Reds organization. Chapman went 5 1/3 innings, he allowed one unearned run with five walks and eight strikeouts The Reds are struggling once again and this is a bright spot for them considering they dropped 30 million on the youngster. Everyone knows that he can throw heat but he really needs to work on his control, he is walking to many batters and has hit a couple already. The Reds really need him to start pitching well so they can pull him up and give him his first start in the Majors. If he can start getting his fastball over the plate with the same velocity he is going to be a very dangerous pitcher, one in which the Reds desperately need.

Cleveland Cavaliers this is their year

This is the year that LeBron James and Cleveland will get their well deserved NBA championship. They have been playing great team basketball this year, which earned them the best record in the NBA at 61-21. LeBron James is playing the best basketball of his career and is not only scoring 30 ppg but dishing the ball, and getting everyone involved. The Cavaliers front office has done a great job at surrounding him with the players that he needs to win a championship. The addition of Antawn Jamison has made a huge impact, and he might be the key ingrediant the Cavs need to win the title.

The only team in the East that can give them a run is the Orlando Magic, but now they have Shaq, JJ Hickson, and they should be getting Leon Powe back soon who will make a big impact in the lineup. This is the year that the Cavs will win the championship and finally get LeBron and the city of Cleveland its championship that they desperatley have been waiting for.

Laker Struggles

Something is going on out West in Los Angeles, the Lakers certainly do not look like the defending NBA champions. They are in a big time funk right now, and it starts with Kobe Bryant not playing well right now. He seems to be forcing shots and is reverting back to the old Kobe, thinking that he has to put the team on his shoulders, when he actually has a lot of talent around him. Arguably the Lakers have the best starting five in all of basketball but they are clearly out of sync. Their two big men Gasol and Bynum need to start getting involved and taking advantage of the Thunders lack of size in the middle. Those two are playing very soft and in order to win they need to step thier games up.

With the series tied 2-2 the Lakers better be careful especially with this young Oklahoma team who seems to keep gaining more confidence game by game. The Lakers need to get back to playing team defense and stopping Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook who they seem to have no answers for. Phil Jackson needs to change some things around and instill the thought of team defense back into his players heads because that is what won them the championship last year.

New England taking full advantage of draft

Once again the New England Patriots showed why they remain one of the NFL's elite franchises. They took full advantage of the draft by obtaining the most draft picks out of all 32 teams with 12 total picks. Notably they had three picks in the second round in which they took advantage by drafting three solid players in Rob Grankowski, Jermaine Cunninham, and Brandon spikes.

The Patriots have always enphasized on the value of whole draft and not just the first two rounds, case in point being Tom Brady whom they selected with the number 199th pick overall in the 2000 draft. They do this by taking advantage of teams who get over anxious and want to move up on draft day. These over anxious teams will give two for one deals, meaning you give them an early round pick for two later round picks, which the Patriots have been great at doing over that past decade. This is great for teams who have done their homework on all of the players in the draft and know the value of full 7 rounds rather than just the first one or two rounds.

Boxing Superfight

Boxing is in desperate need of the Mayweather Vs. Pacquio superfight that was supposed to happen last month, despite Pacquio not wanting to do the Olympic style drug testing. This is the fight that is going to possibly save boxing and it needs to happen sooner than later because UFC is starting to take over. These are the two best boxers in boxing right now and it will be the most anticipated fight in boxing history. Before the fight got cancelled they were prediciting it would be the biggest and most watched fight ever.

After Mayweather fights Shane Mosley I think that they should have to fight each other. Everyone wants to see that fight and boxing will not be up to par with UFC until this fight and other major fights happen. If this fight does not ever happen I think it will be the biggest mistake in boxing history because UFC might completely wipe boxing out.

Strikeforce Brawl is a "Black Eye" for MMA

On Saturday, April 17th Strikeforce held a night of mixed martial arts fights which was telivised on CBS. The main event was a fight between Jake Shields, strikeforce midleweight champion, versus newly acquired mma superstar Dan Henderson. The first round of the fight went as many people predicted with complete domination by Dan Henderson, but remaining 4 rounds came as a surprise when Jake Shields held off the competition to retain his belt.

After the fight is when the controversy started. Jason Mayhem Miller entered the ring in attempt to steal Jake Shields moment and request a rematch, when Nick Diaz, Shield's companion "jumped" Miller and a brawl ensued. As a fan of mixed martial arts, I, as well as countless others were disturbed by what we saw. The actions being telivised on live tv went against eveything companies such as the UFC have worked feverishly to dissociate with the words mixed martial arts.

I feel that it is great the mixed martial arts has signed with cbs to be telivised nationally, but it is a shame that a lesser organization such as Strikeforce acquired the deal before a more organized company such as the ufc, and displays its antics to the public.

Indianapolis Colts Building Class

The Indianapolis Colts have gained a reputation that has made them one of the most classy organizations in all of sports. It was clear in last weekends draft that the Colts value character over talent. They passed on several decorated players due to past criminal records and college violations.

They have also been criticized for letting players go for drug related violations. When asked about the stictness in the organization quarterback Peyton Manning said, "we are professional athletes, we know that with big contracts come big responsibilities." I feel that the Colts strategy, although heavily criticized, has payed off. Passing on several talented players and building a team around character has got them to two Super Bowls in the past four seasons.

Paul Pierce Hits Game Winner

Paul Pierce hit another game winner giving the Celtics a commanding 3-0 lead in the series against the Heat. Paul Pierce has remained an underated player in my opinion throughout his career. He has been placed on the all-star team numerous time but NBA fans still believe his game is not comparible to some of the best such as Carmelo and Chris Bosh.

I am not placing Pierce With lebron or Kobe, but I do believe he should be in the category with the rest of the high caliber players in the NBA. Leading the Boston Celtics to a World Title and becoming the playoff MVP should be enough along with the all-star nominations to disitnguish himself from the rest of the pack.

Tim Tebow 25th pick in the draft

On Thursday Josh Mcdaniels and the Denver Broncos shocked the sports world by picking Tim Tebow in the first round with the number 25th pick in the NFL draft. This was a big surprise to a lot of people watching and even Tim Tebow himself was surprised. Most analysts had him going in the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th round in the draft. When they drafted him they said that he was going to strictly play quarterback.

I actually think that it is a good pick for the Broncos because he will come in a bring some fire to thier organization. The Broncos were really hurting at quarterback with Kyle Orton being their starter. If Tebow can come in and learn the offense and really study films and the playbook he will fit perfect into the broncos offense because they run the majority of their offensive plays out the shotgun, in which was the primary offense at Florida as well.

LeBron James triple double

Today LeBron James had a triple double against the Chicago Bulls as the Cavs took a 3-1 series lead. He concluded his night with 37 points 12 rebounds and 11 assistsThe fashion in which LeBron had the triple double was the most amazing part about it, he had 2 buzzer beaters in which one to close out the 3rd quarter right in Derrick Rose's face. He was playing with an even more aggresive swagger than ever before. There was a look on his face throughout the whole game as if he was saying that no one was going to stop him. This guy is unbeleivable to watch, we could be watching the greastest basketball player to ever play the game. I think this is his and the Cavs year to win the NBA title, which will put him amongst the NBA elite at only 25 years old.

Bengals draft

In looking at the Bengals draft this weekend I would give them a grade of a B+. Jermaine Gresham is a very good pick, he is very athletic and is big as well. We dont have a true tight end and he can come in right away and play, especially because Chase Coffman is not NFL ready at all.

My favorite pick is Jordan Shipley the wide reciever out of texas. This will give Carson Palmer another weapon on offense. I think that he can come in and possible fight for the third reciever spot, not to mention he is a great returner. He has great speed and will probably be a slot reciever, the only thing he lacks is size b ut his motor makes up for it. Another great pick for the Bengals is Brandon Ghee out of Wake Forest. He has great size and speed at 6'0, 195 pounds and ran a 4.35 40-yard dash. I feel that he can come right in and help out the Bengals secondary in a big way.

Ben Roethlisburger

All charges against Big Ben have been recently dropped due to lack of evidence. Even though the charges have been dropped the comissioner is likely to suspend him as he should. The guy seems to not be learning anything at all. He first gets into a motorcylce accident in which the team owners told him he was to not ride his motorcylcle in the first place. Next he is accused of sexually assaulting a female, in which the charges were dropped. Then he gets accused of sexually assaulting another female, again in which the charges were dropped.

The guy is obviously not learning he has to be held accountable for his actions and I think he deserves an 8 game suspension. If he does not get any type of punishment I dont think that he will ever learn, and will just keep getting into to trouble. The Steelers really need to evaluate their situation with Roethlisburger, and maybe might need to consider drafting a quarterback or picking another one up.

Anderson Silva

Last weekend Anderson Silva fought Demian Maia in UFC 112, for those who didnt see the so called "fight" it was a mockery to the UFC as a whole. President Dana White says he was "disgusted" and that it was the first UFC fight where he has actually left the venue because he was so mad. The fight went 5 rounds in which Silva just toyed with Maia, he could of knocked him out in the first round but he chose to make him look like an idiot for 5 rounds. Also, making the people at home who bought the fight, in which this was the main event, feel like idiots for buying it as well. This is going to hurt UFC a little bit there are a lot of people who were very mad about the fight, this is not what the UFC needs if they want people to keep buying into their so called "sport".

T.O and Mcnabb may be reunited

It was reported today that Donovan Mcnabb has told Washington Redskins management that he would like to play with T.O again, and that they should try and pick him up. Owens and Mcnabb played together back in 2004-2005. It was a good combonation until Owens destructed the whole Philidelphia locker room and called his quarterback out after the Super Bowl. I dont know if this is going to be a good idea, I think that the Redskins will be better off drafting a wide reciever and not picking up T.O. The Redskins already have enough to worry about being one of the worst franchises in the NFL right now, they dont need anymore distractions and thats exactly what T.O is.

Kevin Durant and the Thunder

Kevin Durant won this years NBA scoring title becomming the youngest player in NBA history to do so. He locked the title up by scoring three 40 point games at the end of April. The 21 year old Durant finished the season averaging 30.1 points per game. Not only has Durant won the scoring title but led the Thunder to their first playoff berth ever, they earned themselves the 8th spot in the West and will play the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.

Durants size and quickness create a mismatch for a lot of the forwards in the NBA. He is 6'10 and can shoot the three but he can also play point guard for the Thunder as well. There hasnt been anyone in the NBA who at that size can handle the ball as well as he does. In only his third year in the NBA he led the league in scoring, and I am looking forward to watching this kid play for a lot longer.

Jason Heyward baseballs next big thing

Jason Heyward of the Atlanta Braves only needed one at bat to signify that he had arrived in the Majors. In the rookies first at bat he smashed a home run to left field at the Braves opening day. The 20 year old Lefty is being touted as the quote "next big thing in baseball" as reported by ESPN baseball analys Buster Onley. He is already getting comparisons to Ken Griffey Jr. and Albert Pujos. Atlanta Braves Brian McCann said about Heyward, "he is by far the best 20-year-old ive ever seen, and the way he handles things is like nobody ive ever been around". This guy is just as good at the plate as he is in the outfield and I personally will be looking forward to watching him play all season.

Redskins Pick up Mcnabb

The Washington Redskins signed former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb on Sunday. This was a very good pickup for them because they have a lot of tools around him. They have a good defense and a decent offense. They had been missing a good quarterback for many years and now they have fufilled their needs. With offensive weapons like Chris Cooley, Santana Moss, and Clinton Portis this could be a very dangerous team in 2010. If the Redskins can pick up a wide reciever in the draft then they will be a definate playoff contender.

New Overtime Rule in NFL

They have just reported that there might be a new overtime rule in the NFL. The rule will be, that instead of sudden death it will be the first team to score, scores a fieldgoal then the other team will get the ball with a chance to score. But if the first team to score, scores a touchdown then the game will be over. I personally like this rule a lot and I feel like it will make overtime better and it wont be decided on the fate of heads or tails. Which really should not be the way that an NFL game should be determined. This new rule will make the NFL overtime a lot better than what it was before.

Chad Ochocinco

Chad Ochocinco has just reported on his twitter page that he will be participating in the T.V show Dancing with the Stars. This comes as no shock to anyone who follows Chad, he has shown his great moves and personality with his excessive celebrations including a river dance in which he showed his nimble feet. I feel that he will be very fun to wath and will probably be pretty good. I am also looking forward to watching Erin Andrews as well. It has also been reported that Ochocinco will have his own reality dating show on VH1. He is going to have 85 girls try and win his heart over in a tournament style dating game. This should be very interesting to watch as the world will get to see a different side of the multi talented Chad Ochocinco.

Sidney Crosby

Sid the Kid proved yet once again that he is the best player in all of hockey. On Sunday playing for team Canada against the U.S, Crosby scored the game winning goal in overtime to give the Canadians the gold medal. Throughout the game Crosby was held in check the until the final seconds of overtime, when he five holed Ryan Miller to win the game. This was probably one of the greatest days in Canadian history with thier "Golden Boy" winning them the Gold medal. Americas heart dropped when they saw 87 cut to the net wide open, and with a nice pass he stabbed a daggar into the heart of America.

Iverson Out

Allen Iverson is reported to be done for the season the 76ers reported today. Iverson has taken leave from the team to be with his daughter who is reported to be very sick. I would not be surprised if AI were to retired after the year is over. He has been traded three different times in the past two years and has seemed to not be happy at any place that he has been. If he does retire he will leave a legacy as one of the best guards to ever play the game of basketball, even though he never won a championship.

Best teams in college basketball/number one seeds

Syracuse- I personally beleive that Cuse is the best team in college basketball this year. They are very good all round and play great defense, they can shoot, and they can also beat you on this inside with Wesley Johnson and Rick Jackson. They are led by Senior Andy Rautins who is one of the best defenders in all of college basketball and he can also knock it down from the outside. Cuse plays in the Big Eas which is the best conference in college basketball hands down and they are the best team in the Big East. They are my choice to win the national championship. Here is Bobby Knights breakdown of the Cuse 2-3 zone http://coachingbetterbball.blogspot.com/2007/10/syracuse-2-3-zone.html

Kansas- The Jayhawks are a close second behind Syracuse in my opinion. They are led by senior point guard Sharon Collins who will probably be the player of the year in the Big 12, which is in most peoples opinion the second best conference in America. Cole Aldridge is one of the nations best shot blockers on the interior and he also averages 12 ppg for the Jayhawks. They have a lot of depth and can bring some seniors with experience off the bench. Also fresmen Xavier Henry is one of the nations best freshmen averaging around 14 ppg. I feel that they will go far in the tournament with their senior leadership.

Kentucky- In my opinion the Cats are the third best team in the nation but have a good shot at winning a national championship. They have the best starting five in college basketball hands down, and also the biggest starting five averaging 6"7. Their whole starting lineup will all eventually be playing in the NBA within the next year or two. Freshmen John wall who is the leading candidate for player of the year has led the cats to a two loss season so far. With Wall, Patrick Patterson, and Demarcus Cousins Kentucky is a very scary team and if the freshmen can play like hes been playing all year then they will have a good shot at the title.

Ohio State- The Buckeyes are my pick for the fourth best team in the nation and also the fourth number one seed in the tournament. They are led by Evan Turner who is also a candidate for player of the year. He almost single handedly has taken over games and put the team on his back. He is averaging nearly 20 ppg and no one in the country has been able to shut him down so far this year. When he is playing well and John Deibler is hitting from the outside the Buckeyes are a tough team to beat. In my opinion they are a sleeper number one seed but might have a chance at snatching it up with the loss of Robby Hummel Purdues star player.

Players to watch in college basketball

John Wall The freshmen Guard from the University of Kentucky is the front runner for the national player of the year. He has led UK to a number 1 national ranking, on a team that sometimes starts 3 or more freshmen. He has consistently dazzled the college basketball world with his combonation of size and quickness to beat people off the bounce. He is starting to feel more comfortable with his team now and is not doing as much scoring as he did in the start of the year and is now distributing the rock to his teamates. What impresses me is that he doesnt let his team lose. In almost every close game (except for S. Carolina) Wall has taken over at the end of the game, not letting his team take an L. Not only is he the front runner for playe of the year, but will most likely go number one in this years NBA draft if he decides to leave early.

Devan Downey has just put his name into the national player of the year conversation. For the people who dont know who he is, he is a transfer from UC where he was named the Big East all rookie team. His showing at the University of Florida game where he put up 36 out of his teams 56 points showed the talent that the little man had. Not to mention he single handedly would of beat the Gators if it wasnt for a last second shot by Chandler Parsons. His next game versus the University of Kentucky (the number 1 team in the nation) he put up 30 out of his teams 68 points. This was pretty much a one man show to say the least. Downey who was 8 out of 27, still had the confidence to want the ball and make big shots at the end of the game. Numerous times Downey came down the floor guarded by the John Wall who most people think as the unanimous player of the year, and completely blew past him and made incredible shots over people who were twice his size. I think that after these two games people need to put his name into the national player of the year talks.

Dominique Jones For those of you who dont know the name get to know it. Jones plays guard for the South Florida Bulls, who are in the Big East conference. He is averaging 22 points per game in the best league in America hands down. Against the three top 25 teams he has played he has put up 30 against Syracuse, 28 against W. Virginia, and most recently 46 against Pitt who they upset. This guy is fun to watch his motor never stops running, against Pitt he willed his team to the win scoring over half of his teams points. The Panthers seemed to have no answer for him which seems to be a common trend against teams playing Jones and the Bulls. He too has put his name into the player of the year talks as well.
