Strikeforce Brawl is a "Black Eye" for MMA

On Saturday, April 17th Strikeforce held a night of mixed martial arts fights which was telivised on CBS. The main event was a fight between Jake Shields, strikeforce midleweight champion, versus newly acquired mma superstar Dan Henderson. The first round of the fight went as many people predicted with complete domination by Dan Henderson, but remaining 4 rounds came as a surprise when Jake Shields held off the competition to retain his belt.

After the fight is when the controversy started. Jason Mayhem Miller entered the ring in attempt to steal Jake Shields moment and request a rematch, when Nick Diaz, Shield's companion "jumped" Miller and a brawl ensued. As a fan of mixed martial arts, I, as well as countless others were disturbed by what we saw. The actions being telivised on live tv went against eveything companies such as the UFC have worked feverishly to dissociate with the words mixed martial arts.

I feel that it is great the mixed martial arts has signed with cbs to be telivised nationally, but it is a shame that a lesser organization such as Strikeforce acquired the deal before a more organized company such as the ufc, and displays its antics to the public.
